Philips Design - Bio-Design

2009 Biological Age Report

Stating that current technology is exhausting current eco-systems beyond their ability to replenish, The Biological Age explores ways we could learn from nature and natural systems. It identifies new and emerging “biological” technologies as alternatives to the electro-mechanical solutions we are used to.

Observing and mimicking nature’s processes − biomimicry − is cited as being as much a necessity as an innovation. The Design Probe implies that biomimicry will have as much an effect on the systems we use, the way that networks are generated and products and people embedded within them as it will on the design of products themselves.

Presented as a brief summary of the issues that will challenge design and future product development, The Biological Age suggests areas where we could develop sustainable applications on the periphery of our existing business
